Terpene Profile
Hemp strains would not be what they are were it not for terpenes. For starters, it would be hard to tell one cultivar apart from the other because all of them would be odorless, how disappointing. Apart from this, the effects of different cultivars would not be as pronounced as they are on the usual. This is because terpenes potentiate the interaction of cannabinoids with the endocannabinoid system through a mechanism known as the entourage effect.
Umpqua is a terpene dense strain. Four terpenes however dominate the pack; myrcene, pinene, limonene and caryophylene.
When myrcene is present in a hemp strain it will give the strain a strong skunk-like odor.
- Myrcene compliments the anti-inflammatory effects of cannabinoids that are present in this strain.
- Limonene is a citrus scented terpene that is common in nature as well as in the rind of citrus fruits. Expect to find limonene in high amounts in lemons, oranges, and tangerines. It helps to elevate the mood and it also has anti-inflammatory properties as well.
- Pinene elicits the odor of a pine forest. It helps to improve short- term memory thereby countering the effects of THC on memory. It also helps in treating cardiovascular conditions.
- Caryophylene is present in spices and has a peppery aroma. It has analgesic benefits.
